On lettering and art

As I mentioned yesterday, besides crafts and work, I have been working on lettering and art every now and then.  Up 'till now it has been just something for pleasure and fun--and something of a stress relief thing lol.  But lately I have been encouraged to pursue typography on a more extensive scale.  I don't know if that is something God may have in store for me but I am trying to expand this hobby and learn more about it.  Through the encouragement of my cousin Cristian (who just happens to be a graphic designer and amazing artist) I read the book "The elements of Typographic Style" which I found insightful, despite it being a rather difficult read. 

I was really happy when I finished it lol.

So I thought I'd share some of my art with y'all and I hope you will comment and let me know what you think, or what I should work on more etc. I hope you enjoy :)

This was the first script/lettering poster I did and I just used my normal cursive handwriting with a few added embellishments.

Again I just used my normal handwriting and tried to write it out in a way that was pleasing to the eye and easy to read.

Here I tried to achieve a calligraphy style look, however, I did this (and most of my art) with a sharpie instead of a nib pen lol.

This one I did with my brother in mind, hence the "Lord of the rings" style of font.

I just think this quote is soooo sweet!

I had a lot of fun with this one, simply because of the novelty of it.  Just in case you can't tell it says "Brave."  The unique thing about this drawing is that it reads the very same upside down! 

I heard this in a sermon and was blessed by it so I decided to make a poster of it.  I usually have to be inspired by something before I can draw it so all these sayings have special significance for me.

YOLO (You Only Live Once) being the theme of just about every teenager alive I decided to apply it biblically by linking it to 1 Timothy 4:12, which is the border around this drawing.

I think this one doesn't even need a caption, it speaks for itself.

Again, this speaks for itself. We don't value prayer enough and we truly underestimate its power.  That's something I have been learning a lot recently.

What can I say? There's so much truth here.

As I said, I only do quotes that personally touch me lol :P

Aside from lettering I dabble in sketching a little--a very little as I'm not very good at it. So here are a few of my pencil drawings.

I avoid portraits as much as possible as they never look like the person I'm attempting to draw but this portrait of my niece actually looks like her so I kept it.

I drew this celtic cross for my brother Caleb's birthday last year.

And this one was for all my nephews, after all what little boy doesn't like Lego ninjas?? 

This was my first attempt at anime art and I was quite happy with the result.  It's a very fun art form to do, especially the eyes.
